I posted this video in a boat forum and was told that overheating happens because the water is warmed in the tank. So when i get a chance i’m gonna have to lake test it. bThanks for the comment

runs so sweet. We run an 18′ft Sylvan. My only observation of the 3 or 4 on our lake every one has had a shift rod which runs from inside the power head down to the lower gears becomes weak and bends sometimes it will allow only front or back shifts or just snaps. The rod is fairly inexpesive but as I say the head has got to come off to replace it so it is labour intenive. So if you ever have the motor apart give close attention to the shift rod.

    Do you run your …
Do you run your boat in fresh or saltwater? If inn salt, do you flush it? Have the thermostats been replaced. Make sure you fuel is fresh and clean, a good carb rebuild would be good. It is also relatively easy to perform, and in fact there maybe only one or two items that actually have to be replaced, so purchasing a kit may be unneccesary. Perhaps you have a bad carb gasket causing a lean condition and a high idle – also causing a bank to heat up because she is running too lean!
    Good luck.

    Youve got 2 …
Youve got 2 problems here, firstly it should not overhat in a test tank, even if the water is warm it wont overheat as the engine isnt under any load, you need to remove the heads, clean ut the water passage and replace your thermostats, this should solve that problem.

Thanks. I thought that it probally would need overhauling so i’ll be working on that this winter.

    Secondly, the fast …
Secondly, the fast idle and spitting is caused by a lean fuel mix, you’ve probably got a bad gasket in the carb, if its been while since the cabs were rebuilt you need to remove them, strip them down, give them a good clean using carb cleaner & compressed air, re-assemble & try, you may need to tickle your idel mix screws, if they have them, depending on model it may be preset, you should be able to get the idle down to about 800rpm in neutral. Hope this helps.

My yamaham was doing the same thing and I had to richen up the fuel by turning in the air screws.

I have to agree the motor is running lean. You most likely need to turn in the air screws on the cabs 1/4 turn on each one. The idle sounds high as well. The engine when idling should be 800 when in gear and 1000 when in neutral.

I hope this helps good luck
