as far as geting parts and using on a boat{realabilaty}.im thinking the 3hp or maybe the 5.5hp.what do you think?

They were all knuckle busters and hard to adjust. The pumpkins were adjusted with three adjustments. The throttle timing, and the main jet and the idle adjustment. The main was a "belly button" in the middle of the motor and adjusted with bent wire coming out the bottom of the cowl. The idle was adjusted with a thumb wheel on top right of the starter, Once they were adjusted right you could keep them running with a small turn of the thumb wheel. They sounded really neat and and always drew a crowd, as they would "phist, phist" out the belly button when run just a little lean.

You can get either engine as you will not hardly notice any change in the horsepower. They should be fairly cheap for an antique as they made a zillion of them over the years with hardly a change. Most are missing the lower cover as you had a time finding the main jet when it was in place.

Don't buy an antique for reliability. It's sixty years old. If you want to see one run- rent "The Birds", by Alfred Hitchcock. The girl runs one across Bodaga bay to deliver the love birds.
