I used to go to the state park and fish its near the head of the lake where the Catawba comes in , there are some big blue cats in there , my best was close to 40 pounds , they say there are flatheads but I never caught one.

As far as bait In the summer you can castnet shad but they may not be big enough yet . I liked to fish it in August . I also used cut bluegill there but shad is my favorite.

There is a secret to that area , In the summer the boats run up and down the river channel there and they run through schools of shad and cut them up with the props . late at night when it gets quiet the big blue cats come in there to feed on the cut shad . I have found this to be true also on Lake James in NC as well

There are nice striped bass in Norman as well down towards the lower end.
