A video of pontoon fishing on Lake Springfield. Primary purpose of the trip was to catch crappie but the bass jumped all over that spinnerbait.
This is just a theory, but because the lake level is dropping to around normal, I think the fish are being forced out of the flooded weeds and are starting to set up on more traditional structure.
Used a spinnerbait to catch a bass just a few oz. shy of 5 lb.

Now that was a huge bass! Great video!!!
Thanks, Crazy! …
Thanks, Crazy! After getting a crappie bite last time out, I was specifically targeting the big crappie (caught a few). An almost 5 lb bass isn’t huge, but it is really good for around these parts. I went out after crappie again since this video and …you guessed it, caught another 4+ lb bass….I’ll make a vid sometime (they are all starting to look the same- HA)!
what pound test did …
what pound test did you use for that big bass? ..and how did u set the drag .
Joe, if I recall, I …
Joe, if I recall, I was using a casting reel with 10 lb. test Berkeley XT mono and a “spidercast” medium-heavy action rod. The reel has a “star” drag that you can loosen or tighten built in right near the handle. A lot of my videos don’t show most of the fight, the drag adjusting and all that because everything happens so fast and first priority is the fish, second is the camera.

See, that’s why I love fishing spinnerbaits!!! Great catch Doodles, er, Bub!:-)
THANKS 707!! Oh, …
THANKS 707!! Oh, yeah, I’m addicted to spinnerbaits, too, Bub (ha)! My normal “pattern” on that lake is to throw tubes and cranks early, spinnerbaits in May and June, worms or jig/critter craw just about any time. Because of the whacky weather, it has been a puzzle this entire year. Fortunately there’s enough fish that you could probably snag one with a bare hook.

BF, thanks! Lake …
BF, thanks! Lake Springfield isn’t huge; I’ll do some research on the acreage. It is a shallow power-plant lake with pretty warm water. I mainly fish where the river widens out into the lake itself. There’s great bass in the river at times, too.
hey man i just …
hey man i just enjoy this video alot ..watched it about 5 times, nothing like catchin some good ol bass
Joe, thanks for the …
Joe, thanks for the nice remarks…as far as a “production” is concerned it had some flaws but it was fun to have a nearly 5 lb bass hammer that spinnerbait…barely hooked, too!
My Spfld buddies …
My Spfld buddies said the fishing was bad in that lake because of the powerplant. Table Rock has been slow for bass this fall. The Ozark Bass (Warmouth) are biting everything.
Thanks for the videos. God Bless!
Sdls, thanks for …
Sdls, thanks for watching! Fishing hasn’t been what I’d categorize as great this year in Lake Spfld but still caught some nice ones. Crazy weather all year. TR has been spotty at best; maybe better with vertical jigging this winter? God bless you, too.
