Tobago main source is tourism and taking the tourist to the Buccoo Reef in the glass bottom boat is part of showing them parts of Tobago, The boats here have outboard engines. Parts are very hard to come by and it's not always at your finget tips when something goes wrong with the engine. I need good information like contact person and number preferrable from yamaha. Information that will help me start up that business. Thank you

What is an alternative motor oil for Yamaha 4 stroke outboards vs the more expensive Yamalube?

Yamalube is a synthetic motor oil, same as Castrol Syntech Amsoil or any other synthetic brand. The only difference is that Yamaha had one of the company's put it in a bottle with their name on it!

Which repair manuals, would you recommend, provide all around information on Yamaha outboards? Pictures helpful.

none, nor all will make you a mechanic but any of them can help you out some with some things, they all have pictures. all of them will tell you how to do basic maintenance which is very important, and help with repairs. i have several different brands but dont know as one is better than the other in general

Yamaha/Mariner/Mercury Outboards – are they the same motor with different branding?

I'm looking at buying a small 4 stroke outboard but am confused by the differences between the three brands, they seem to be the same but with different logos.

Mariner is simply a Mercury with different branding, the same as Pontiac and Chevrolet share models. Mercury marine has used long-block powerheads from Yamaha, Tohatsu, and others for years, but that's where the similarities end. Different fuel systems, ignition and electrics, different gearcases, etc. This "parts exhange" is done by most automotive type companies, remember the Plymouth Horizon? It had motors from both Volkswagon and Mitsubishi.

Keep in mind when shopping for an outboard, warranty and service availability are the biggest factors to consider. Hope this helps you out.
