Serial # of a johnson outboard motor?
70hp 3cyle johnson outboard motor need year and model and serial# so I can get it regis. I bought it in a nother state. On top of the motor a small round plate about the size of a quarter has the number 043178 would this be the model number.Thank Rob.
There might be a small plate riveted to the left side of the motor just under the cowling. It should give you year and model number. If it is there just take the numbers to any dealer and he can give you the year and model. On my small outboard that is where it is but on a 70 HP you may just need to call a Johnson dealer with that. They will know where the tag is at. Or go to groups at Yahoo and join ( its free ) the ” antique outboard ” group and post your question. I have had help there from old to fairly new motors.Hope this helps you.

Johnson Outboards Fuel Mixture
I have an early 70’s Johnson outboard motor model 40EL75C. Any idea what the fuel to oil mix ratio is?
i believe 32:1, roughly 1.8 ounces of oil per gallon of gas, also your going to want to use “tcw-3″ oil…., hope that helped =)

Where can I find a used electric starter for a 1981 15hp Johnson Outboard Motor?
I am looking for a place to get a used electric starter for a 1981 15hp Johnson outboard motor. The one I have is pull start and I am needing to convert it over. A new starter kit is going to cost me $700, I can buy a new motor for almost that much.
Before you spend a dime on anything new…give this guy a call. He has tons of old parts.

Can I add a tell tale hole to my 1979 Johnson outboard ?
I have a 1979 25 HP Johnson outboard that does not have a tell tale hole. The water comes out the exhaust port on this model. Can I add a tell tale hole so it is more obvious if something starts to fail or stops working ? I am looking for a procedure or website and direction on how or if this is possible.
step by step with pictures and diagrams for 3- & 4-cylinder johnnyrudes – if you can't figure out how to adapt it to your own, ask the guys on the iboats repair forum, somebody will walk ya thru it for sure……..

I have a johnson 175 outboard motor that chokes and dies when in gear?
I have a 1978 johnson outboard motor that starts fine and idle's good but when i put it in gear it goes o.k. but when i give it more gas it dies.when i am in neutral and gives it gas it is a little slugish but will catch and go but not in gear. When in reverse it will go fine if i ease into it .
sounds like gummy carb.has it sat for over 3 months with gas in the carb? if so clean out the bowl and clear the jets.check tell tale valve to be sure its pumping water to the heads.
