Motor runs with low idle speed of about 450 rpm. There doesn’t seem to be a way to adjust the idle speed because the remote throttle cable “locks” the throttle ring in place. Others have suggested I try a link and sync and I bought the Seloc book but can’t find any procedure with that name.

First disconnect the cable from the controls. Start the engine and let it warm up. by hand move the throttle until it stops on the idle adj. screw. It should be above 500 rpm. now put it in gear, if it stalls your too low, repeat until the engine continues to run in gear. Now adjust the control cable until it can be reinstalled without moving the throttle arm. Good luck!

i need the diagram of a fuel pump for a 1973 evinrude 25 hp outboard so i can put it back together. thanks!

My God, some folks don't have a clue.
You DO have a fuel pump and the rebuild kits are not that reliable.I know that the price of a new one may make you shake but you will be much happier replacing rather than trying to rebuild,in fact the rebuild kits for that pump are from an after market supplier OMC stopped selling them many years ago.

The previous owner said he hit a sand bar and it stripped the gears out and the prop wont spin anymore. How much are we talking to fix it? I can get the boat cheap!

I had an estimate on my 85 hp motor that was more than the cost to replace the motor with a used one. Over $2000. I bought a newer 85 hp for $1500

Dose anyone have any experience with,or opinion on Evinrude outboard motors Fitch model 200 hp?

I am looking at a boat with an Evinrude 200hp. Ficht. I heard a negitive report from a dealer, who was not an Evinrude dealer. Dose anyone have any experience with this motor?

In my experience FICHT owners and dealers have a love hate relationship with this technology. When it is working correctly they love it, when it goes bad, real bad, they hate it. I have even been told that the purchase and development bankrupted OMC and lead to the Bombardier buyout.

Seems there is a lot of information in the blogs out there with FICHT, and the Bombardier fix is the key. Looks like the big engines are troubled, and you need to stay in 2002 or newer. Looks like there was a recall on the earlier engines.

It also appears there is some sort of retrofit or conversion to the ETEC technology, which I know people love. There is a lot of homework to do on this issue if the engine is pre-2002. Do the search I did with FICHT and start reading, there are many blogs out there.

Click on the Sierra links and find the pump section for Johnso/Evinrude. Find the 18-7822 pump kit and see if that matches up.

do I mix it with the gas or is there a seperate tank somewhere? I don’t see an oil cap anywhere on the engine itself.

depends if you have a vro system or not, in that year the engine originally came with a seperate oil tank , so you woudl use that, althought if i were me i woudl disable that system if it already hasn’t been (probably already is), anywyas then you woudl mix a 50:1 gas to oil ratio. if you do nto know might be worth it to take it to someone to do all that for you, shoudl only take about 30 minutes to 1 hr to complete

I recently purchased a boat with a 135 HP Evinrude. It is an older model for sure, maybe 80s vintage. Model # 135383m Serial # J0008469.

How can I determine age of an 135 HP outboard Evinrude motor?

I know the shift lever has to be disconnected in the forward position and the foot has to be dropped and I think this should be a relatively simple procedure but it,s my first one.Any tips you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Any thoughts on what is going on? The plugs are getting fuel, and the choke is moving as it should. Bought new plugs tonight and am going to see if that helps int he morning. One last question, what is the difference between a marine spark plug and any other? Thanks in advance!

what year and horsepower?

don't use any plug not recommended in your manual. and especially don't use a plug not designated as "marine". johnnyrudes run best on champion plugs, the NGK equivalents aren't an exact match for heat range.

now, around the back side of your motor, just below the powerhead, are two holes – those are "exhaust relief ports". When the underwater exhaust is submerged, it puts backpressure on the engine making it difficult to start — the relief ports relieve some of the pressure to make starting easier.

Those ports need to be above the surface of the water for starting.
