Hi gang, Rick Ostler here from North American Waterway bringing you Used Pontoon Boats-Pontoon Parts along with news and views from the boating industry. Here is an updating for the Miami International Boat Show.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Feb. 5, 2009 – As the official kick-off to the boating season begins with the 68th annual Miami International Boat Show, February 12-16, the industry expects to find consumers closely watching their budgets. In an effort to help boating enthusiasts uncover budget-conscious ways to get on the water, the 2009 Miami International Boat Show is premiering the Affordability Pavilion, which showcases a variety of boats that can be financed for $300 or less per month.

While recreational boating in the U.S. is perceived to be an activity for the affluent, it actually attracts mostly middle-class participants. Approximately 75 percent of boat owners have a household income under $100,000 and an estimated 95 percent of boats on the water today are 26 feet or less.

“The Affordability Pavilion is one of the many things we’re doing to provide visitors with access to some of the best bargains in the country so they can continue creating memories on the water, ” said Cathy Rick-Joule, vice president of southern shows and Miami boat show manager. “The timing could not be better to purchase a boat with many manufacturers offering the best deals we’ve seen in years.”

Even in the current credit crunch, financing is still available for boat owners, and show organizers hope that the new area will help boaters understand that there truly is a boat for every budget and lifestyle.

One of the boats featured within the Affordability Pavilion is the Sweetwater Tuscany Pontoo Boat Special 2086, the all-in-one family fun pontoon boat , can be financed for $145 per month.

Show visitors will also have the opportunity to talk with experts at the Discover Boating Center to learn about the kinds of boats best suited to fit their budget and lifestyle.

Miami International Boat Show and Strictly Sail Miami hours are Thursday, Feb. 12 (Premier Thursday) from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Friday, Feb. 13, and Sunday, Feb. 15, from 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; and Monday, Feb. 16 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. The marinas close at 6 p.m. daily. For advance tickets and more information, visit MiamiBoatShow.com.

About Miami International Boat Show

The Miami International Boat Show is produced by the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), the world’s largest producer of boat shows. NMMA is the leading association representing the $37.5 billion per year recreational boating industry. NMMA member companies produce more than 80 percent of the boats, engines, trailers, accessories and gear used by boaters and anglers in North America. For more information about the NMMA, visit www.nmma.org. Used Pontoon Boats thanks; Miami Boating News :: Find a New Boat for Less Than $300/month at the Boat Show

Rick Ostler here from North American Waterway bringing you Used Pontoon Boats-Pontoon Parts along with news and views from the boating industry. Here is a report from the Louisville Boat, RV & Sport Show.

The economy may be bad, but that’s not going to stop Dana Alford of Highview from dreaming of summers spent relaxing on a plush, leather-clad boat.

“The middle class can’t afford this stuff,” she said after stepping off a boat priced in the $30,000 range. “Our boat is not nearly this plush, but it’s a boat and we love it.”

Many shoppers and dreamers filled the Kentucky Exposition Center yesterday during the first day of the annual Louisville Boat, RV & Sportshow. The show ends next Sunday. But the general sentiment was that they’re not going to be buyers this year.

The south wing of the center was crammed with pontoons, campers and other outdoors equipment, which vendors are hoping will sell despite the bad economy that has forced most Americans to cut back on their spending.

“We’ve had some pretty good prospects,” said Megan Damron, a representative of Hilltop Marine in Bronston, Ky. “Right now is a time for buying — from cars to boats to houses. This year has been a little bit slow, but from the looks of the show, it’s probably going to pick up.”

Tammy Boston lounged on a shiny pontoon boat on display, imagining how nice it would be to take her two granddaughters on one this summer. “We come every year, just looking for pontoon boats and stuff,” she said, leaning forward in the leather seat. “If we could find a good price this year, we would buy one.”

The show is a bit different this year, she added, with fewer vendors and a smaller showroom. The exhibit, in its 52nd year, has more than 400,000 square feet of showroom space, according to a press release. It also includes a new feature, “international houseboat fest,” a 55,000-square-foot display that offers information on the best in houseboats, which are especially popular on Lake Cumberland.

There are also dog stunt shows and activities and presentations on fishing, among other things. The event is a good way to see what’s new in the boat world, said John Steinmetz of Shepherdsville. “I think a lot of people, with the economy, are going to be window-shopping and dreaming,” he said. “I work for myself, and I know what the economy is doing because my phone is not ringing.”

For Cindy and Chris White of Fern Creek, going to the show is a family tradition. Each year, they check out the campers, but so far they haven’t taken the plunge. “Eventually, we’ll end up with one,” Cindy White said while touring a camper with a kitchen and seating area. “Probably not this year.” Used Pontoon Boats thanks; Reporter Andrea Uhde for this; Crowds hit boat show, but many are just looking | courier-journal | The Courier-Journal

Hi gang, Rick Ostler here from North American Waterway bringing you Used Pontoon Boats along with news and views from the boating industry. Here is a Used Pontoon Boat review on the Fort Worth Boat and Sport Show.

FORT WORTH — Boat dealers aren’t exactly buoyant, given the current economy, but consumers who are fishing for a deal may reel one in this weekend.

“It’s a great time for consumers,” said John-Morris Edwards, whose family’s Austin-based Innovation Event Management is organizing the annual Fort Worth Boat and Sport Show, which runs through Sunday. “There are dealers who are wanting to get a bird in the hand. They’re kind of in a pickle.”

The tight economy has hurt boat sales along with other items considered to be luxuries. The sales of virtually every type of boat except jet boats fell in 2007, according to the National Marine Manufacturers Association. In response, many of the boat-show exhibitors will be featuring the less-expensive versions as well as the top-of-the-line luxury items this year.

Edwards said there are about as many dealers as there were last year, although not as many as in 2006, which he recalled as one of the show’s biggest. “It is a challenge,” said Ben Pigeon, regional sales manager for Tige, a boat builder based in Abilene. “I’m not going to lie to you.”

What you’ll find

The show features about two dozen boat dealers and builders, an equal number of other vendors offering related items such as modular dock systems, and a peddler show with scented candles, jerky and spas. Plenty of new pontoon boats and pontoon parts and accessories available.

The goal is a family show with kid-friendly attractions such as Twiggy, the water-skiing squirrel, who is slated to put on daily shows in a pool in the main exhibit hall. The reclusive rodent, who snoozed before Thursday’s show, hails from Florida and wears a squirrel-size lifejacket when he hits the water. “Twiggy,” Edwards said, “is about water safety.”

The dealers, however, were hustling to prep for the first show of what they hope will be a brisk sales season while the skiing squirrel napped. They’re facing tight credit, leftover ’08 models in some cases and consumers who may be unwilling to buy a big, if admittedly enjoyable, toy. But some of the toys looked mighty enticing.

“GM came to us and said, ‘Build us a Corvette boat,’ ” Waterski America salesman Todd Dundas said, climbing into a shiny blood-red ski boat with a distinctive Corvette-style stern and 505-horsepower V-8 engine. “MSRP: $116,000,” Dundas said. “On sale today for $87,000.”

When they’re not skiing, wakeboarding or surfing behind the vessel, the crew can watch DVDs on the dashboard or swim over to the stereo control panel on the back of the boat and crank up the Rockford Fosgate speakers. “I call it a lake limo,” Dundas said, showing off another bling-encrusted ski boat with room for “16 of your closest friends.”

Making a pitch

A&R Marine of Noble, Okla., is getting its feet wet here for the first time. Its Craig Cat, a compact two-person pontoon boat, costs $7,000 to $11,500. Engines range from 20 to 30 horsepower, with speeds of 20 to 30 mph. There’s also an electric option.

“They’ll run all day on a six-gallon tank of gas,” owner Al Baumgardner said. “One model comes with Sirius satellite radio. “If things go well, we may open a dealership” in North Texas, Baumgardner said. “We’re pretty excited about all this. This is our first boat show.”
Baumgardner stood by Friday afternoon as visitors lined up to ask about the little boats.
“We haven’t sold one, but we will,” he said.

Testing the waters

John and Mary Adamek of Fort Worth were just kicking the pontoons on a 23-footer. He retired from Lockheed last year and is pretty happy with his bass boat. Joe Sawyer, a retired department-store manager, was up from Stephenville with his wife. He was in the market for a sailboat but didn’t see any.

John Christensen, however, was close to taking the bait on a fish-and-ski boat. He owns a Denton computer sales and service company. “I might buy something today or this weekend,” said Christensen, who has a 5-year-old daughter. “My daughter, she’s got a Cinderella fishing pole. I’m hoping that someday I’ll be able to have some family fun taking her skiing.”
His current fishing boat spends more time in the shop than he likes. Now he’s shopping for something he can keep “the rest of my life.” At least, that’s his story. “That’s what I told my wife last time,” Christensen said.

Fort Worth Boat and Sport Show

Where: Fort Worth Convention Center, 1201 Houston St.

Cost: Adults, $8; kids 5-11, $4; kids under 5, free. Re-entry is free.
