Where do I find a free owners manual for a 1974 Johnson outboard motor, 85hp?
Hey guys, thanks for the advice so far, the problem is that I don’t have a credit card and I live in a VERY small african country with no libraries.
I bought the motor second hand as a gift for my husband, but it doesn’t want to work. It’ll start, but then it just stalls. He was so excited about it and I feel like I’ve let him down.
Nobody churns out free marine engine repair manuals, you need expert steps and accurate information which costs money. Which brings me to the wise phrase: "There is no free lunch, someone has to pay."
You can either go with a Clymer’s outboard repair book for your Johnson model and year, or you can get a Seloc one.
Expect to pay $40 to $60 dollars plus tax, and don’t forget about the shipping cost if you buy it online or by phone.

Pontoon Boat Insurance – Protect Your Investment, Family and Friends
Do you enjoy inviting a group of friends out for a floating party in your new or used pontoon boat? Do you entertain clients with your business? Do you invite friends to a weekend of fishing your favorite lake or river?
Then you really need to purchase pontoon boat insurance. And here is why; Even though new and used pontoon boats are simply floating rafts with motors, it’s still important to have proper insurance coverage for your new or used boat.
Boat Insurance can be a large expense, but you can easily reduce the cost by choosing a high deductible, making sure you have all the necessary safety equipment and that you have a clean insurance record.
Even when your boat is not in the water it is a good idea to get your insurance started right away. You may even be able to add your new or used boat onto your house insurance policy so be sure to mention that to your insurance representative.
Also talk to your boat insurance representative to create your own policy by selecting from a broad collection of boat insurance options for your boat. You really want to make sure your insurance needs are fully met.
It is always a good thing to be pro-active by arming yourself with the knowledge to get the best quotes you need for the best rates among the different policies made available to you.
Then you can enjoy all what boating has to offer knowing you are fully insured and protected.

Harris Pontoon Boats Adds Social Media Program
I read an interesting article recently in the Trade Only Newsletter. Harris FloteBote has recently launched a customer-centric social media program…..
The goals of the program are to better serve current owners of Harris FloteBote pontoons; to educate those who are thinking about acquiring their first pontoon; and to create an interactive online forum where pontoon owners can share their experiences and exchange boating tips, ideas and resources with the rest of the online community.
Harris FloteBote has implemented a comprehensive and integrated social media program that includes Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube and Flickr. It has also created a lifestyle blog, “Celebrating Life. One voyage at a time,” which features stories and photography from Harris FloteBote owners enjoying their pontoons.
“Social networking sites such as Facebook are a great place for individuals to interact with other pontoon owners, share stories, upload favorite photos and videos, and gain insight from the experiences of other boaters,” said Tricia Niebuhr, director of marketing and sales administration, in a statement.

I have a 1972 20 hp johnson outboard with a bad control box. worth fixing or sell for parts?
The control box on the boat needs to be replaced. The price to replace the box is around 3 to $400 dollars. With a boat that old am i just wasting my time and money?
It’s difficult to answer this reliably. Depends on the number of hours and overall condition of the rest of the engine. You may fix this and have something else break soon after. My gut feel without knowing it’s history is that your should not invest that much in an old engine like this. Sell it for parts and get a newer used motor that you can test run and know that it is in good shape.

Here is a video of a restored a 1987 24′ Landau Pontoon Boat and added a third pontoon so the boat sits higher in the water, goes faster and handles with ease.
I need to repair a broken plastic hose fitting on an old Johnson outboard motor. Can it be done?
The Loctite people said that none of their products would do it, because of small surface area, heat and water. Is it possible to fibreglass it together successfully? Or, could you offer another idea short of finding a replacement part. Thanks for your help..
Many have tried, and few have been successfully. The thermostat housing and water pump housings are particularly difficult. There are used parts online companies that sell these parts reasonably. Good Luck!
