On a Johnson outboard I need the rubber gasket that goes on the engine cover. Where do i get one new or used?

1978 70hp Johnson outboard motor.

I have three of them in My shed, but You should be able to get one from any boat repair shop in Your home town, they junk out motors all the time..

What kinda chain should I use to moure my boat buoy? It will be underwater all the time.?

I have a pontoon boat and want to leave it in front of my cottage on a upstate NY lake. I will drop a heavy weight to the bottom of the lake, but what kinda chain should I use to attach to the weight and then to the buoy? It needs to be strong and mostly rust proff. Also what chain will work best when rubbing on another metal article (the weight)? I guess I need to know what is the strongest chain out there for me to use and not worry about breaking after a few years of underwater use.

The advantage of stainless is that is doesn’t rust, but it does not have the strength of galvanized steel. Another factor is the original cost of stainless. You could probably replace the galvanized several times and still save money.

How long are bunks for a 24′

looking at a pontoon trailer. Guy doesn’t know what it was made for. Do you guys know how long the bunks for a 24′ pontoon should be? I’m thinking in the 22′ range since the cone really would sit on the bunks anyway.

Yamaha to introduce 9 new outboards

In the largest and broadest product introduction in its history, Yamaha Motor Corp. presented nine new outboard engines from 4 hp to 300 hp at a media event Monday in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Yamaha unveiled the engines to 43 journalists at The Chattanoogan Hotel. Seventeen boats, including vessels from Contender, EdgeWater, Pursuit and Grady-White, were available for testing. The engine builder has re-engineered its entire four-stroke V6 lineup, which includes the 225-, 250- and 300-hp outboards. In addition, a new mid-range engine, the F70, was unveiled, as well as two portable engines – the F4 and F6. For the inshore and freshwater bass boat markets, Yamaha announced new VMAX four-stroke models in 200-, 225- and 250-hp models.

All of the engines are touted as being lighter, more compact, more fuel-efficient and better performing than previous models. “This is the next generation of four-strokes,” said Dyskow. “You can see the direction we’re going – significantly better power-to-weight ratio, lighter weight, better fuel economy, better performance.”

The engines are lighter, but their displacements are greater. Current 225- and 250-hp models are built with 3.3-liter engines with a displacement of 204.6 cubic inches, while the new versions utilize 4.2-liter engines with 254-cubic-inch displacements. The new V6 300-hp engine replaces the V8 300, which used the same block as the 350-hp engine. The V6 version weighs 246 pounds less and is 17 percent more fuel-efficient than the V8 version, according to Dyskow. The new 225 and 250 weigh 558 pounds. The previous 225 came in at 583 pounds, and the 250 weighed 604 pounds.

How do i perform a compression test on a 6hp pull start johnson outboard?

The engine won’t start, so is a cold test ok? Please give a step by step instruction.

If you really want a good measure from your test, you need to purchase a compression testing gauge. it screws in to the same hole that your spark plug screws in to. turn the engine over a few times and watch the gauge, the highest number that it hits consistantly is your compression psi. Cold testing it should be ok, because basicly all your doing is turning over the engine like you would to start it. Good Luck

Pontoon Boat Enclosure Sale Ends Soon

Hi gang, Rick here from North American Waterway. I hope your week is off to a good start.

Get Your Pontoon Enclosure Yet? Sales Ends Soon!

Our Black Friday Sales Event for pontoon enclosures has gotten off to a great start. It has been very exciting for us selling pontoon enclosures to families world wide.

To places like Miami, Minnesota, Toronto, Vancouver as well as
Sweden, Denmark and the United Kingdom.http://north-american-waterway.com/blog/

Today I thought I would share some of the common questions that people
ask us in determining what type of enclosure would best suit their boat?

1. What is the difference between the Half Enclosure and the 8×8 Quick Enclosure.

The Half Enclosure is custom fit and comes with a slant stern curtain creating more covered space on your boat and includes framework. The 8×8 is a universal fit that fits on your existing framework and all the curtains hang straight down enclosing an 8 feet x 8 feet area.

2. Can I get a half enclosure with a half playpen cover to protect the upholstery up front?

We do not manufacture half playpen covers. We recommend our Slant Front Full Enclosure, which sells for the same price as a half enclosure – half palypen. And the slant curtain on the front of your pontoon provides more covered space and sheds rain more effectively
than the flat half plapen cover. The Slant Front Full Enclosure would best suit your needs. The boat is completely covered and you can always add on the camper front later
if you so wish.

3. What is included in the Full Camper Enclosure?

Our Camper Enclosures come with 2 bimini tops, side curtains through
out, front and stern curtains.4. What options can I add to my new enclosure?
We have options for fabric upgrade to Sunbrella. Screens are available
for the front, stern and side curtains. Privacy curtains are available
in polyester and Sunbrella. We also offer bimini top storage boots in
polyester and Sunbrella.Have you had a chance to check out the great prices and grabbed one
of these pontoon enclosures for yourself yet? If not, then you need to do it very soon.

Remember these prices are for a very limited time and once we have
filled a certain number of orders we will have no choice but to
close the sale. http://north-american-waterway.com/blog/

If you planned on getting your enclosure at a huge savings you need
to place your order now. I would hate to see you miss out.

Even if you can’t get to your boat because it is put away in storage
you can lock in your price by pre-ordering now.

Ethanol Legislation Could Protect Your Engine

Ethanol Legislation Could Protect Your Engine

A bill now in Congress, S. 1666, could help ensure that all ethanol-blended gasoline sold is compatible with boat engines currently in use as well all other types of gasoline engines.

S.1666, the “Mid-Level Ethanol Blends Act of 2009″ requires the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to study the compatibility of blended fuels with current engines and fuel systems before it could allow ethanol concentrations higher than 10-percent.

The current, 10-percent ethanol blend known as E-10 has caused significant problems for marine engines and boat fuel systems, in some cases necessitating expensive replacement of in-hull fiberglass fuel tanks. No boat in use or on the market today has been designed – or is warranted – to run fuel with greater than 10-percent ethanol.

S. 1666 is supported by BoatUS and a diverse coalition of organizations, including environmental groups, engine manufacturers, food groups, consumer groups, and refiners.
